A North Warwickshire family has turned years of experience with barefoot footwear into a new business, while father Daniel Adams has appeared in a documentary exploring the movement.
Lowenna and Daniel Adams live in Shustoke with their six children and say minimalist footwear has become part of everyday family life.
The idea for BarefootBrit began through the work of Lowenna's sister, Brittany Balinski, who built an online platform and community around barefoot footwear. Lowenna later launched a retail business in January 2026 after seeing growing interest from families looking for alternatives to conventional shoes.

From family experience to a new venture
The family says its interest developed gradually as different members tried footwear designed to allow more natural movement. That experience helped Lowenna understand the practical questions parents often have about sizing, durability and the transition from conventional shoes.
The business now works with a range of specialist brands and products, but the family says its focus is on sharing the experience it has built up rather than treating the subject as a short-lived trend.

Daniel's own search for suitable work boots became another important part of the story. He began looking more closely at trade footwear and later attended the business's first industry trade show at NAEC Stoneleigh.
Documentary appearance
Daniel is one of 18 people featured in Stupid Shoes, a documentary examining the arguments and personal stories behind barefoot and minimalist footwear. The film premiered on 10 September.
The supplied photographs show Daniel discussing his experience and demonstrating the flexibility of a shoe during filming. The family says the documentary gave participants an opportunity to explain why they had changed what they wore and how that decision affected daily life.
For Lowenna and Daniel, the project also placed their North Warwickshire experience within a wider conversation about footwear, movement and consumer choice.
The couple's six children — Romely, Heston, Corben, Lewis, Joshua and Ayrton — have also been part of the family's journey. Lowenna said building the venture around family life had involved plenty of learning, but it had allowed them to turn a long-standing interest into a local enterprise.
The story is being published as a local business profile. No payment was made for the coverage and no product recommendation is implied.
