A professional dancer from Nuneaton has created a dance-led breast cancer awareness campaign after drawing on her own experience of treatment.

Lucy Mae says she was diagnosed with breast cancer at 27 while working in China. She began developing DANCE LIVE CHECK YOUR CHEST during chemotherapy, hoping to start conversations about breast awareness in an uplifting way.

Finding a connection through dance

Dance had been central to her identity before treatment. Hearing P!nk's Never Gonna Not Dance Again helped spark the idea of using movement to bring people together.

“I wanted to create something uplifting and positive that could open conversations around breast awareness without relying purely on fear,” she said.

The campaign has brought together dancers, survivors, creatives, volunteers and supporters. Lucy says it was created in support of Prevent Breast Cancer.

London flashmob film to be released

A London flashmob has been filmed as part of the project, with the official film planned for release on Thursday 15 October during Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Lucy hopes the campaign will encourage conversations and awareness through a shared activity that has meant so much to her.

Campaign updates are available through her public social accounts, using the handle @lucmaee.
