A Nuneaton charity has secured £35,000 from Arts Council England to widen access to professional performing arts training for young people.
Haddon Charity for Performing Arts, based at HCPA Studios in Chapel End, says the award will support a new programme offering industry-focused training, practical experiences and career preparation.
The charity plans to bring professional practitioners directly to young people in the local community. It says the funding will make experiences available that would ordinarily be considerably more expensive to access.
Support for young people facing barriers
The organisation works with young people including those with special educational needs and disabilities, social, emotional and mental health needs, and other barriers to education.
Eleanor Haddon, operational director at the charity, said: “For us, this is about much more than simply receiving funding.”
She added that the organisation was passionate about making performing arts opportunities accessible to young people who might not otherwise be able to take part.
The programme is intended to help participants gain training and insight from people working in the industry while developing skills that could support future education and careers.
Charity based in Chapel End
Haddon Charity for Performing Arts is registered with the Charity Commission under charity number 1181254. Its stated objectives include helping children and young people learn about drama, music and dance through classes, workshops and opportunities to participate in performances.
The charity operates from the former United Reformed Church at 73 Coleshill Road, Chapel End. It said further information about the funded programme, along with photographs and interview opportunities, would be available as its plans develop.
