Nuneaton Town will travel to The Dovecote Stadium in Shepshed on Saturday 19 September at 3pm to face Shepshed Dynamo in the Pitching-In Northern Premier League Division 1 Midlands.

The match comes after an improved performance on Tuesday, when Nuneaton competed with league leaders Wellingborough Town before losing 1-0 to a late goal. New goalkeeper Gabriel Bajrami made an excellent debut in that fixture.

Nuneaton currently sit 18th in the table but lie just 5 points behind their 6th-placed opponents. A win on Saturday would close that gap to 2 points. The club will look to avoid a fifth defeat in seven league games.

Historic First League Meeting

This will be the first competitive meeting between the sides in over a century. A goalless friendly in 2021 was the last time a Nuneaton Town or Borough side visited Shepshed. The clubs have never met in a league game before, though their history stretches back to 1923 when they met in the FA Cup, with Nuneaton winning a replay 3-0 after a 3-3 draw.

About Shepshed Dynamo

Shepshed Albion was formed in the late 1800s and joined the Leicestershire Senior League in 1907. The club changed its name to Shepshed Charterhouse in 1975 and reached the Southern League in the 1980s, when Martin O'Neill was appointed manager in 1989. O'Neill later managed Leicester City and Celtic.

After financial difficulties, the club changed back to Albion in 1992 before being wound up. Shepshed Dynamo was formed in 1994, with the name coming from assistance provided by nearby Loughborough Dynamo. The club was relegated to Step 5 in 2012 and remained there until promotion back to the Northern Premier League Division 1 Midlands in 2021, where they have stayed since.

Shepshed have played at The Dovecote Stadium since 1891. The road name Butthole Lane relates to archery, which was formerly practised on the ground. The club's Dynamo name references Dynamo Moscow via Loughborough and features the same 'D' design on the crest.

From Nuneaton town centre, take the A47 to the A5 via The Long Shoot. Follow the A5 south to the M69, then take the M69 north, joining the M1 north near Leicester. Follow the M1 to J23, take the slip road and turn left onto the A512 Ashby Road East.
