Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council has opened the new Bedworth Skatepark to public use from Saturday, 22 August. The facility is located at Miners' Welfare Park.
The skatepark can be used by skateboarders, scooter riders, BMX bikes, in-line skaters and WCMX riders. The council recommends that helmets and protective clothing should be used at all times.
Facility design and features
The skatepark has been designed and built by Canvas, a nationally recognised skatepark company. It has been designed to cater for beginners as well as more experienced riders, and to allow progression in skills.
Elements of the skatepark include a rhythm section, bowl, street sections and a perimeter line.
Official opening event and improvements
A formal opening event will take place in the coming weeks, with further details to be announced soon. The event is expected to include competitions, prizes and professional demonstration riders.
Path routes in Miners' Welfare Park will change at the same time, with more of the main permanent path links being tarmacked and opened up to improve public movement around the facilities.
Cllr Bobbie Greenwood, Portfolio Holder for Leisure and Health, said: "We are excited to get the replacement skatepark completed and hope everyone will really enjoy using it, while keeping yourselves safe within your skills and ability. We know people who don't necessarily take part in organised sports or use a gym will have a lot of fun using the skatepark. In that way they will also get a significant amount of exercise at the same time, which is good for helping all the Borough's residents to keep healthy and active."
Future work
Work to create the new link paths to the skatepark is currently being completed. The wider parkland areas will open further on into 2027 once grass seeding taking place this autumn has been properly established. The council asks the public to keep off newly levelled and soil areas yet to be seeded.
Next stages of work at Bedworth Physical Activity Hub will see the creation of a permanent car park on the north side of the building and then the creation of an outdoor artificial floodlit pitch.
