Lincoln United, competing in the NPL Division 1 East, have made a solid start to the season. They won 3 straight matches including a FA Cup victory over Grantham Town, then drew before beating Stocksbridge Park Steels 2-0 away on Wednesday night. They currently sit 2nd in the league with 10 points, though they were knocked out of the FA Cup on Saturday by Wellingborough Town — their first defeat of the season.
Previous Meetings
The teams have met only once before: on 17 September 2016 in the FA Cup 2nd Qualifying Round at Liberty Way, when Lincoln won 2-1 with a goal from Ironside. This is Nuneaton's first-ever visit to Lincoln's stadium.
Lincoln's History
Lincoln United was formed in 1938 as Lincoln Amateurs. After becoming members of the Lincolnshire League in 1945, they took on their first paid player in 1954 and changed their name to Lincoln United. The club joined the Yorkshire League in 1967 and the Northern Counties East League in 1981.
They reached the FA Cup First Round in 1991-92, losing 7-0 at Huddersfield Town, and again in 1997-98 when they lost to Walsall. Lincoln reached Step 3 for the first time in 2003-04 but were relegated after four years.
The club was relegated to the United Counties League after finishing 3rd bottom of the NPL Division 1 South in 2022-23 and losing the inter-step play-off to Avro. They were champions of the North division in 2024-25, earning promotion to the NPL East Division, and finished 13th last season.
