Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council is asking residents to share their views on proposed changes to the Council Tax Reduction Scheme. The consultation launched this week, with a deadline of Thursday, 5 November 2026, at 5:00pm for responses.
Council Tax Reduction can be claimed by people on low incomes to help with their Council Tax payments.
What is changing?
The Council plans to replace the current Means Testing system—based on the previous Council Tax Benefit system—with an Income Banded Scheme from 1 April 2027.
Pension-aged claimants will not be affected, as the scheme for pensioners is set by Central Government. Working-age households in Nuneaton and Bedworth will be impacted by the new scheme.
How to have your say
The Benefits team has produced a survey questionnaire for residents to complete as part of the consultation.
Cllr Peter Gilbert, Portfolio Holder for Finance, said: "This is a great opportunity for the Council to better understand residents' needs and priorities when it comes to Council Tax Reduction. I encourage residents to share their views on the proposed changes. If alterations are made to the scheme, we want to ensure they work as effectively as possible for those use it."
