Nuneaton Town will travel to Rugby on Saturday 22 August for their first Warwickshire derby of the season against Rugby Borough FC in the FA Cup Preliminary Round. Kick-off is at 3pm at Nationwide Windows Arena, Kilsby Lane, Hillmorton, Rugby, Warwickshire, CV21 4PN.
The match will be contested for a place in the draw for the 1st Qualifying Round. It is the first ever meeting between the two clubs, with the sides scheduled to face each other again in the league in October and February subject to postponements.
Recent Form
Nuneaton Town will come into the tie on the back of an impressive 5-2 victory over Westfields in the Extra Preliminary Round two weeks ago. Bradley Stretton scored twice in that win. The shorter away journey will be welcome for the Nuneaton side.
Rugby Borough defeated Sporting Club Inkberrow 3-0 in the previous round and have won all three of their league games so far this season, making them strong favourites heading into Saturday's encounter.
About Rugby Borough
Rugby Borough was formed in 2017 to help Rugby Town juniors continue playing once reaching adult years. The club have enjoyed a rapid rise through the leagues, winning the Leicestershire Senior League Division 1 at the first attempt before winning the Premier Division the following season, though they failed ground grading and were denied promotion.
They won the Leicestershire Senior League Division again in 2021-22, earning promotion to the Spartan South Midlands League Division 1. A play-off victory the following season secured promotion to the United Counties Premier South. After two further seasons, Rugby Borough beat Aylestone Park in the play-off final in 2024-25 to be promoted to Step 4 for the first time.
A 16th place finish in their first season at that level, coupled with relegation for Rugby Town, means Rugby Borough are now the highest ranked Rugby side for the first time this season.
